As part of getting old, I decided it would be good to run my hometown running race, the Gate River Run 15K, before I fall apart. I arranged a trip to do this and also see my parents and grandmother in Florida, who I don't see enough of!
I had a great visit catching up with family, eating delicious food, celebrating birthdays, visiting the World Golf Hall of Fame, and putting in a decent performance in the River Run (1:22:02, for an 8:48/mile pace). The heat was a bigger factor than I expected - I can't train for that in Idaho in the winter! Overall I really enjoyed the race - it had a great route over two of Jacksonville's signature bridges and through some very nice neighborhoods. It was very well organized and featured unlimited free beer after the race. I may very well return next year!
